How to Reduce hair loss in 8 easy steps

Hair is the most versatile part of our body- it builds our identity and is a reflection of our personality & mood.
But what if you see your identity falling apart and going down the drain and I mean literally!!!
Well, you have probably seen tons of articles like this claiming to reduce hair loss but nothing works !!!! does it?
So how is this blog post different from all the other ones?
I have personally tried most of the points mentioned below and I actually noticed my hair falling out less.
In this blog post, you can expect to learn about

Harmful habits that cause hair loss
* Hair Loss solutions
* Hair Loss vitamins
* Dealing with hair loss due to hard water
* Tips that actually reduce hair loss

So let us drive right into it.

1. HAIR FALL HABIT TRACKER

Instead of writing long paragraphs, talking about all the mistakes that you might be making which could be the cause of your hair loss.
I prepared a checklist out of it, so you can print it out and track your self-destructive habits.
(does not include falling for emotionally unavailable guys, toxic friendships and emotional eating)
How to use this checklist?
Each of the following points could be a possible reason for your hair loss.
You have to mark against anything that you notice yourself doing - just so that you can recognize a pattern and pause your bad habits.

2. HAIR LOSS VITAMINS

BUT WHY DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE VITAMINS? WHY CAN'T I JUST BUY ANY SUPPLEMENT?
And the answer to this question is that vitamins are not regulated by the FDA unlike most drugs, so you must learn to read the labels and that is why I developed this chart for you.

So now the question comes, do you actually need hair supplements?
The answer is no.

You can skip on the supplements if you can maintain a healthy diet but for most of us, it is very difficult to do, since we crave pizza all the time.
So supplementing vitamins through tablets is very important.

3. HAIR LOSS TREATMENTS

If you are someone who suffers from severe hair loss, sometimes just creams and serums are not enough and you might have to undergo professional medical treatments to see some kind of improvement.
So when you notice your hair is falling out at a higher rate than normal, your doctor is your best friend.
According to the American Academy of dermatology, some of the possible hair loss treatments are -

4. HAIR LOSS DUE TO HARD WATER

A very weird but an IMPORTANT point to be noted is that the quality of water in your area can cause hair loss.
One of the biggest signs that you live in an area with hard water is that your shampoo does not lather well and even after you wash your hair, you still feel like the dirt and oiliness hasn’t really gone and you can notice your hair worsen by each wash (eg: drying of hair, thinning and roughness)
BUT HOW DOES WATER CAUSE HAIR LOSS?
If you are someone who swims a lot or resides in an area with hard water.
The calcium, magnesium and silica in the water can lead to breakage, thinning, and dryness of hair which eventually damages the hair and causes hair loss.
But do not worry, because I too stay in an area with very hard water and I have developed the perfect coping mechanism.

You can attach a water purifier to your shower head
Products like these are easily available on Amazon and can be attached to the showerhead. It traps the salts and filters the water making it softer and less harmful for your hair.
If you do not want to attach a water filter, here is a quick hack

Now let us assume that you only have 1L of bottled water (or water fit for drinking)

This process works because when you use bottled water to rinse your shampoo, there is no residue to form a film on your scalp and cause dandruff or hair fall.
And since conditioner should not be applied on the scalp anyway you can use regular tap water to rinse your hair.

5. LEARN TO READ THE LABELS

Shampoos and conditioners have a lot of ingredients that we do not pay attention to but they cause a lot of harm.
So here is a list of components you should look after while buying your next shampoo.
You may not be able to find a shampoo that excludes all of the above ingredients, but what you can do is choose the
shampoo with these ingredients in smaller percentages to ensure that less damage is done to your hair.

6. USE THE RIGHT HAIR OIL

Most of us are told to apply coconut oil, olive oil, or castor oil in order to take care of your hair. But do any of them work?
Personally I have used all three and these are my observations
The oil that worked wonders for me is onion hair oil by a brand called MAMA EARTH they also have many onion based
products like serums and masks (and no the products do not smell like onions) although the products do have a weird smell,
but I do not mind it.
In fact, my hair fall reduced in just 3 uses and this product also improved my hair quality.

Though you might have to check if the product is shipped to your country. (MAMA EARTH ships to mostly everywhere in India )
I usually apply the oil only to my scalp, leave it overnight, and wash it in the morning.

7. DEVELOP A GOOD SHAMPOO ROUTINE

So, a little fact check
Although mainly articles will tell you to wash your hair once a week or every four days, something that I noticed is that
if I let the oil and the dirt accumulate on my scalp it actually leads to more hair fall.
So something I started doing is that I would wash my hair every 3 days because personally, that is when the scalp
gets oily and dirty. A good tip would be, not wash your hair just because you have an oily scalp
Rather wash it when you see your scalp getting dirty because that is the indication that you need shampoo.
If you wash your hair too often, then the shampoo will just strip your hair of natural oils rather than stripping the dirt.

8.*ACTUALLY * TAKE CARE OF YOUR HAIR

And by this I do not mean, buying every product that there is to take care of your hair, but
including hair care in your self-care rituals and night routine.
Use the checklist to track any unhealthy habits, take vitamins, and reduce the use of heat on your hair.
Healthy hair takes time and effort. So experiment till you find the right hair product and routine

CONCLUSION
To have healthy hair your body needs to be a well-oiled machine therefore you have to take care of your hair
both internally and externally.
So giving up heat tools when you have an iron deficiency will still cause hair loss.
Therefore you have to support your hair from every angle to actually see some results.
Also, patience is the key when it comes to anything related to hair or even skin.
Because rarely products or procedures give you overnight results. Most of them require consistent
use to give their best performance
So I would say, give it at least a month ( the ideal would be 6 months)
And give up only if you see drastically opposite results or you experience some unbearable discomfort.
